An ancient Irish tradition held a loaf not quite a cake, not quite bread, surely stuffed with a number of objects. Each object held symbolism representative of the fates of whoever held that slice. Traditional objects include a pea, a coin, a stick, a ring, and a small piece of cloth. A coin symbolizes prosperity and good luck. A pea symbolized no marriage that year. A ring meant marriage was certain. A stick meant disputes and wasn’t a desirable find anymore than cloth; which symbolized bad luck and little money or abundance.
